What is Kazam?
Kazam is Sun Tech’s source-available platform for managing and running the warehouse: it covers the WMS and WES layers and offers the web application, the mobile app and the Windows client on the same data and the same rules. For the layer that coordinates the machines it integrates with Sun Tech WCS, a separate, open source product under the Apache License 2.0.
What do WMS, WCS and WES mean?
The WMS handles items, stock, orders and shipments. The WES orchestrates execution in real time and assigns tasks. The WCS computes routes and coordinates the dialogue with conveyors, sorters, shuttles, AGVs and other devices through drivers. Kazam covers WMS and WES; Sun Tech WCS is the open source product dedicated to plant control, and it can integrate with Kazam or with another WMS that implements the public HTTP contract. Do I need to install anything?
To use Kazam, no: the application opens in the browser, so there is nothing to install on workstations and an update is immediate for everyone — no rolling out machine by machine. Everything happens in the browser, configuration included. What you do install is the mobile app on the operators' handhelds, because it needs the hardware scanner and has to work without a network. The Windows client also remains available for those who prefer an installed application. We have told the whole story here: Kazam now runs in the browser.
Does Kazam configure itself?
Almost. Kazam has an assistant that interviews the people who know the warehouse — areas, pallet formats, working flows, product attributes — and builds a configuration plan out of those answers. The questions go into your sector, and every choice is explained before it is recorded. The assistant never writes to the database: it proposes, and the plan is applied only after you have approved it. The same assistant can write the queries you need, described in words. We have told the whole story here: Kazam's assistant.
Is Kazam really open source?
No — and it is worth saying precisely: Kazam is source-available. The code is accessible to customers and partners under the agreements they sign — you can read it, audit it, adapt it and extend it — but it is not published under an OSI open source licence and does not grant redistribution rights. Note also that Kazam is built on two commercial libraries, Syncfusion and DevExpress: if you compile it yourself, you buy those too. That is why source access suits companies that build software for a living, while those who simply want their warehouse to run choose the cloud subscription or the installable licence. The machine layer is the exception: Sun Tech WCS is open source, under the Apache License 2.0.
How much does it cost in practice?
Prices do not depend on the number of registered operators or on devices merely on the register. The plan counts web users and mobile terminals active at the same time, and is set by the first threshold crossed. The figures are written in the open on pricing, with no form to fill in: the cloud starts at €149 a month, the licence to install at €2,900 one-off, the sources under agreement cost nothing. In the cloud you pay per warehouse, in bands of users signed in at the same time — not per name and not per registered device. Separate from that are the services you choose: support with agreed response times, customisation, training, assisted go-live.
Who is Kazam for?
For anyone whose warehouse has become the bottleneck. Small and mid-sized companies and e-commerce operations still running on spreadsheets or on the warehouse module of their ERP. Companies with automation — shuttles, sorters, AGVs — that need a layer which actually drives it. Integrators and software houses building solutions for their own customers, who want an extensible platform rather than a closed product.
How can I get started?
Fill in the access form: an engineer, not a salesperson, replies within one business day and opens your access to the web application. If you wish, they also help you with the configuration. If you prefer to see your scenario first, you can book a thirty-minute guided demo.
Does Kazam integrate with other systems?
Yes, and without connectors tied to a single vendor. The model is a data exchange contract: every warehouse document carries the reference to the ERP document that created it, so the link between the two worlds is always verifiable. The exchange runs through a dedicated area with a status on each record — the ERP writes, Kazam reads — and through APIs you query using the ERP's own keys when an immediate answer is needed. It works with SAP, Dynamics, TeamSystem, Zucchetti, Oracle and others, as well as e-commerce platforms, carriers, BI tools and industrial devices.
What kind of support is available?
There is a free tier of documentation, tutorials and FAQs, enough to get started and for day-to-day use. Companies running Kazam on a warehouse that cannot stop choose professional technical assistance: priority helpdesk, agreed response times, and a technical contact who knows your installation and does not start from scratch on every call. The people who answer are the people who build the product.
Which Android terminals does Kazam Mobile support?
Any device running Android 9 or later with an integrated hardware scanner. In particular the Zebra terminals — TC501, TC701, TC5x, TC7x, ET60, ET65, ET401, EM45 — with DataWedge integration, so a scan reaches the application as if it had been typed: no camera, no waiting for focus. There is a WinUI version for Windows tablets.
On-premise or cloud deployment?
Both, and it is your call, not ours. On-premise: SQL Server and Windows services on your own infrastructure, or containers. In the cloud: Azure, AWS, GCP or a private cloud. The database stays yours and queryable with the tools you already use, with no implicit dependency on a proprietary service. In warehouses with automation, the part that drives the machines sits on the plant network in any case: that is where it has to answer in milliseconds.
What doesn't Kazam do?
It does not do accounting, invoicing or CRM, and it does not try to: those stay with your ERP. Kazam does one thing — make the warehouse work, from the manual site with handhelds to the installation with shuttles and AGVs. If you are looking for a single suite covering the whole company, that is a legitimate choice, and a different one from ours.
