Sun Tech WCS is open source under the Apache License 2.0. This page says what the licence allows, how to try it without machines, which systems it is verified on, how to contribute and what Sun Tech offers to those who adopt it.
The licence
The code is published under the Apache License 2.0, copyright Sun Tech Srl: you can use, modify and redistribute it under the terms of the licence, commercial products included. Third-party components and their licences are listed in the repository.
The status
The current version is 0.1.0, of 16 October 2026: the first after the public preview of 15 October, distributed as source only. Before version 1.0 a minor update can break compatibility; what each version changes is in the release notes.
Try it in about fifteen minutes
On one Windows machine, with no PLC and no WMS of your own: you start the sample WMS and the WCS, load the sample plant, open the editor, store a pallet and bring it back out. It is a demo: one machine, the test driver and the sample WMS, and nothing physical moves.
You need Windows 10 or 11, the .NET 10 SDK, git and PowerShell, with ports 5142 and 5580 free. You start like this:
git clone https://github.com/Sun-Tech-Software/WCS.git
cd WCS
dotnet run --project samples/Wcs.SampleWms
The rest of the steps, with the expected output of every command, is in the quick start.
Platforms
It is tested on 64-bit Windows 11. Windows Server, Linux and ARM64 are expected to work but not verified, and Sun Tech has not published an official platform matrix yet: the detail is in Supported platforms.
Contributing
Issues and pull requests are welcome and are accepted at Sun Tech's discretion; for a large change it is best to open an issue first. Contributions are under Apache 2.0 and new code is written in English. Vulnerabilities are reported privately, through GitHub. The rules are in CONTRIBUTING.md.
What Sun Tech offers
Community support has no guaranteed response times. On request, Sun Tech offers its own driver for the machines, the integration of the WCS with your WMS or with Kazam WMS, commissioning and commercial support: terms and timing are agreed project by project.
